How can you make 2018 the best year ever? First, start with a few good New Year’s Resolutions, there are the usual ones, lose weight, eat healthier, and exercise more. What never seems to make that list, is the septic system.

We all know the septic tank needs to be pumped out every 3 to 5 years, but what about maintenance and inspections?

This upcoming year, make sure your septic system gets the attention it deserves

In last week’s blog we talked about understanding the components of the septic system from the drain line, the tank, distribution box and drain field.

It is also important to understand septic tank myths. Such as treating the tank with bacteria and additives. The fact is, many of these septic additives and household disinfectants actually disrupt the natural balance of the tank. They do not prevent back-ups and won’t fix a problem. Only regular maintenance and pumping will help, taking into account the age of your system.

Another big myth we hear all the time at Orlando Septic Services, I thought we could wait until the septic system started having problems before the tank had to be pumped out. Waiting till you have a back up, notice a foul odor, or any other type of problem, will end up cosigning significantly more to repair.

Flush Smarter

Though there are many products on the market claiming to be safe for septic tanks, it may not be wise to use them. Such as ‘flushable’ wipes and even some toilet paper. Remember, don’t let chemicals, fats, or solid food to be flushed or go down the drain.

Use Water Smarter

Don’t overload the septic system. Instead of doing all the laundry all on one day, spread it out throughout the week. When updating your home, install low flow toilets and fixtures.

Make this Year a good one for your septic system. Small actions can not only extend the life of your system, it can also reduce the operating costs.
