While thinking about your Central Florida Septic system isn’t something you want to think about, until you can end up saving thousands of dollars in repairs. Regular maintenance and preventative care is the key to keep your system running smoothly.
You may not want to talk about your septic system, but knowing a few basics can keep your wallet intact.
The basics of your septic tank
The septic tank holds all of your home’s wastewater. The solids sink to the bottom, fats and oils float to the top. Natural bacteria are responsible for breaking down solid matter. Effluent water is what is left after the solid material is broken down. This effluent water is released into the drain field and is slowly filters into the soil.
The entire system relies on a sensitive balance of natural bacteria and wastewater coming into the tank. The bacteria aren’t able to keep up if there is too much water entering the system.
Why does a septic tank leak?
Delayed Maintenance
While it may not be fun to think about, your septic system needs routine maintenance. It should be inspected once a year and pumped out about every three years. Depending on how big the tank is and how many people are living in the house.
Using harsh cleaning products
The system relies on the balance of natural bacteria, many cleaning products kill off the beneficial bacteria in the tank. Without the balance of bacteria you will need to have the tank pumped out more often.
Damaged Pipes
Normal wear and tear, tree roots growing into the pipes, and driving over the pipes, can all damage the pipes. Causing waste water to leak out.
