The holidays are here, is your septic tank ready? You are probably making plans for fun family gatherings and amazing parties with friends. The last thing you want is a septic system that isn’t working properly, bathtubs backing up with raw sewage, toilets that won’t flush, drains that are slow, or even a foul odor emanating your home.
The solution, have your septic tank pumped out before you have company over
If you are inviting people over for the holidays, you want to know when the last time you had the septic tank pumped. If it has been a while, you may want to consider having it done before company arrives. More people means more flushing, more dishes and laundry being done, and more water down the drain.
Septic backups and drainfield failures can be embarrassing and ruin a great party!
If you are having guests stay at your house, you may want to let them know the do’s and don’ts of a septic system.
Don’ts at the Sink: Limit the use of the garbage disposal (or not at all). Never allow household chemicals to go down the drain Paint, oil, or cooking grease should also not go in the sink or toilet.
The Toilet Should Not Be Overloaded: Non-degradable items such as cat litter, chemicals, diapers, medications, paper towels, dental floss, or feminine hygiene products, should go into the garbage can and not the toilet.
Be Mindful of Your Drain Field: Too much weight can damage the drain field, so don’t drive vehicles or park over the septic system.
Conserve Water: Stagger the use of appliances, washing machine, showers, dishwasher and flushing toilet, too much water in the septic tank at one time can cause problems.
The small price of having your septic system inspected and pumping the tank can avoid a lot of problems later! And thousands of dollars on repairs, many of which could have been prevented.
