As we head into Fall here in Central Florida, those afternoon thundershowers and heavy rain should start to subside. Did your septic system make it through intact? Now is a good time to find out.

First Thing, Check Your Drain Field

Now that the weather is drying up, you shouldn’t have any water over the drain field. If you do, there may be a problem. It could be a sign of a failing drain field. A few signs include slow drains and toilets, foul odors, or raw sewage backing up in the bathtubs or showers.  Look on the ground on and around the drain field and septic tank for a black slimy substance.

The Septic Tank

The rainy season can be especially hard on your septic tank. Debris, sand, and silt can make its way into the tank. Which means it needs to be pumped. Checking the inside of the tank yourself is very dangerous. It is best left up to professionals. The gasses can be toxic.

Septic System Inspection

While you may not see an immediate problem, having an inspection is a good precaution. Catching an issue in the early stages can save a lot of money and frustration down the road!
