How important is it for a Central Florida Restaurant to have their grease trap cleaned and properly maintained? A few local establishments recently found out, as they were temporarily closed because of sewage issues.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the inspection report from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation stated, “When the toilets are flush smelly water and bubbles are coming from underneath the tiles located next to the walk-in freezer in front of the ice machine,” causing the closing of the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurant in Poinciana.

The Greek Village restaurant in Lake Mary also had sewage issues, which required them to shut down. According to their report, “Requested the operator to flush the toilets and also turned on the handwash sink and observed gray water flowing out of the floor drain onto cookline floor.”

Grease backing up in the sewage line is a serious problem for many businesses. Not only can it cause quite a mess, it can be detrimental to your bottom line.

Though both restaurants were able to reopen when the issues were resolved, the negative publicity, loss of business, and expense of emergency repairs, can easily become a burden on any establishment.

Don’t Let This Happen to Your Restaurant

There are many businesses and restaurants in Central Florida with grease traps. Specifically designed to trap fats, oils and grease (FOG) before they go down the drain and sewer. Over time, FOG end up sticking to pipes, solidifying and trapping small pieces of debris. Allowing all types of harmful bacteria to grow. If not taken care of through routine maintenance, drains and sewer lines can back up and cause destruction in the pipes.

With regular maintenance and grease trap cleaning you can keep this from happening in your restaurant. At Orlando Septic Service we understand commercial waste management systems work harder and have higher volume, more stress and deal with harsher chemicals than residential systems.
