From time to time, we are all guilty of letting things go down the sink that can contribute to clogging them and wreaking havoc on our plumbing and septic system.
While it may be convenient to wash all the grease and grime down the drain, it is just a matter of time till it adds up to a huge headache.
Here are 12 things that should never go down the drain
Eggshells
Those small, delicate eggshells don’t seem like they could do much harm, but the fact is, those sharp edges collect on other debris in the pipes, adding to the clog.
Grease
When grease and other oil based products such as butter, mayonnaise, and cooking oil, goes down the drain, it ends up sticking to the interior of the pipes. Over time, this causes significant clogs. It is worth taking the time to cool the grease and dispose of it properly.
Flour
When mixed with water, flour coagulates. If you’ve ever made bread or a cake, when you mix a liquid with flour, it makes a thick gloopy mess! Something you don’t want down your drain!
Medication
Expired or unused medication should never be flushed down the toilet or washed down the drain. All those chemicals end up back in our environment and drinking water. Take any unwanted medication to the police department or local pharmacy.
Any Produce Stickers or Plastic
It is easy to clean your fruit or vegetables in the sink and wash that little sticker right down the drain. These little stickers and small pieces of plastic don’t dissolve, they end up blocking filters, screens, and add to blocking your pipes.
